Cutting processing

Åsco Metall AB

What is cutting machining?

Cutting means the process where material is cut away with the work ethic with which one works. An example of this workpiece could be a piece of metal that must be shaped in a certain way.

Drilling, planing, turning and chiselling are some examples of how the technology can be used, as well as various milling and grinding methods. Some of the methods have been used for many years and have gradually developed into their contemporary variants. There are different types of instruments that can be used in processing, depending on the material. The materials that work best for cutting hard materials are diamond and boron nitride. High speed steel and carbon steel work well for soft materials.

Different types of cutting processing

Milling

There are three types of milling that are important to consider when discussing the concept of milling: pin, roller and face milling. Roller milling machines sides and open grooves, while end milling machines the surface. Face milling focuses on grooves and pockets.

Counter-milling and co-milling are the two phases of the milling process. Milling is both costly and energy-intensive, and to achieve the desired result, milling requires an experienced operator. Since not all materials can be milled, it is important that the miller has the necessary training and experience. Milling is often used when materials have changed in dimension after heat treatment.

Turning

Turning är en typ av skärande bearbetning. En person med en svarv eller en automatsvarv gör det mesta av denna process. Två roterande hållare i
the machine holds the base material on the sides while the operator turns
the material by hand. Alternatively, the lathe can perform each step separately.

Precision is required for this approach, and margins of error are not
acceptable. Another way to produce different kinds of threads is thread turning,
which is also a profitable process. To reach the necessary depth in e.g. one
borehole, thread turning is usually combined with thread milling. We at Åsco
Metall uses us a longitudinal lathe in the production of larger series for better
precision on smaller details and reduce artifacts.
Our large volumes are often pipe rivets made of thin pipes that pass through one
lathe.

What we manufacture with cutting machining

We at ÅSCO Metall AB manufacture a range of different components in cutting processing, such as:

  • Distance tube
  • Sleeves
  • Nipples
  • Screws
  • Bolts
